The large circles represent a Ground Stop ability, which knocks back units and stuns them.
When a unit moves quite rapidly in a linear fashion across the screen, they have been knocked back by the Super Knockback ability.
Units attack, and the defending units have a 50% chance to dodge. If they do, they move into an adjacent, unoccupied space.
